A MANUAL FOR POST-CONTEMPORARY PRESERVATION

Dixit’s lecture will offer a manual for post-contemporary preservation, which will develop an effective and holistic strategy for preserving the legacy of any structure, by offering tools to examine the material and immaterial contours of our built environment. Using the manual to examine three projects in post-industrial sites, Brooklyn, London, and Chicago, to provide a new theory for the ‘transition’ of post-industrial buildings, which will offer an effective and holistic strategy for preserving the legacy of both the hard and soft attributes of our built environment., in effort to ‘preserve’ not only our physical heritage, but examine the plastic, dynamic and alterable values, remolded by the circumstances of human behaviors, practices or beliefs, in order to re-sculpt or alter the contours or appearance of the object at hand, as this understanding also relates to a process and network-based relational concept of culture.
